About SARFC
You've probably participated in organized sports for most of your lives. Unfortunately, unless you have college-level talent, America doesn't offer a lot of organized sporting options once you get out of high school. We want to offer you a chance to continue organized athletics. We offer rugby, the fastest-growing amateur sport in the world. More important, rugby is a CONTACT sport. Rugby combines skills you learned while playing football, basketball, wrestling and soccer. It is the total sport. No experience is necessary. We will teach you the game. We practice year round.
Rugby season consists of a 15s season and Summer 7s season. The 15s season runs from September through March, but does run longer if teams make the playoffs. In 15s, the teams are composed of 15 players each. The game is 80 minutes long, with a five-minute halftime. Summer 7s runs during the summer and involves seven people per team playing seven-minute halves. The field is the same for both games. Sevens rugby will be included in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The San Antonio Rugby Football Club was founded in 1971. We play in the Texas Rugby Union, which includes teams from all over the state. The SARFC has won several state titles over the years, and has advanced into the national playoffs as well. Recent success includes, a 2000-2001 undefeated regular season, 3rd place in Texas Rugby Union and a birth in to the Western playoffs. This year's team will be competing in the Texas Rugby Union's Division III. We practice at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Olmos Basin Park.
